Dental Hygiene Resumes

Writing your resume can be intimidating regardless of what career field you are in. Once you understand what you want to promote the process is much easier. In the first place you need to determine the type of job you want, something more specific than "dental hygienist" would be recommended. You might say a "hygienist in periodontal practice" or other specialty practice. With this in mind you are now ready to start your dental hygienist resume.

Two Types of Dental Hygiene Resumes

Please note there are two different types of resumes: functional and chronological. A chronological resume is exactly that - the information is written in a sequential/chronological order. A functional resume is organized by your skills in dental hygiene. This is done using examples from your work history that illustrate your skills. For a chronological resume, you will list jobs from the most recent to your first position you held after graduating from a dental hygiene program. You will then list all of the skills you gained at each position. If you are writing a functional resume you will list all of your accomplishments with the supporting work history below. After you have come up with a rough draft, ask a friend or colleague to review and critique it.

Below are examples of a functional dental hygienist resume and a chronological resume. A sample cover letter has also been included.
